Professor Dr Yasmin Binte A.Malik is currently the part-time lecturer at the Medical Microbiology Department, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya (UM) and Visiting Senior Clinical Consultant with the Medical Microbiology Department, University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) since 2014. She was formally the Professor of Medical Microbiology and Head of the Preclinical Sciences Department at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) from 2012-2014. Before that she was the Dean of Postgraduate Studies (Post-graduate courses) for two years and Dean of Medical Sciences for seven years at the International Medical University (IMU). Before being invited to join the IMU in 2004, she was with National University of Malaysia (UKM) for nearly 20 years, having held positions as Head of Virology Unit, Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, and then as Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine. By the time she left she was the Deputy Dean of Academics at the Faculty of Medicine and Senior Consultant, Department of Laboratory Services, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM. In 1993 she was appointed Associate Professor and conferred full Professorship since 2003.

She obtained her MBBS from the University Malaya in 1982, MSc in Medical Microbiology from the University of London in 1986 and was admitted to the Royal College of Pathologists (Virology) in UK in 1992. She was conferred a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, UK since 2000.

Her involvement in research of over 40 years with more than 20 research projects, has resulted in over 100 national and international presentations and publications in the fields of viral diseases, antimicrobial chemotherapy and vaccines. The publications have been in the form of textbooks, translations, chapters in books, articles in journals, proceeding, abstracts in proceedings, booklets, CME guidelines, as well as Ministry of Health technical reports and guidelines. She has also been and continue to be invited, nationally and internationally, to review research articles and join the editorial boards of international medical journals. She currently remains as a member of the editorial board for the Malaysian Journal of Pathology and Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences. She has also been and continue to be invited every year to present papers, coordinate and chair scientific sessions as well as organise local, regional and international scientific meetings, workshops and conferences. In 2023, she was recognised as one of the 119 University Malaya researchers who were listed in the “top 2% Scientists in the World in their Respective Fields” as reported by the Stanford University through Elselvier Data Repository.

Her continuous commitment in providing updates on viral infections that included viral hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, VZV, influenza and recently on Covid-19 resulted in her coordinating and conducting teaching sessions on laboratory diagnostics and quality assurance, clinical application, interpretation and management of viral infections in seminars, workshops, scientific meetings and conferences, as well as giving numerous oral presentations and plenary talks locally, regionally and internationally. In recognition for her 40 years of contribution to pathology especially in the field of medical microbiology, she was presented with the College of Pathologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (CPathAMM) Lifetime Achievement Award 2025.
