Professor Yoke Fun CHAN leads a virology laboratory with research interests in the epidemiology and pathogenesis of emerging viruses, including enterovirus A71, chikungunya and respiratory viruses. Her experience in molecular virology, coupled with her focus on translational research, ensures that her work has a direct impact on vaccine development and public health outcomes globally. From 2019 to 2023, she served as Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, MALAYSIA where she continues to shape the next generation of virologists. Currently, she serves as an editor for PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, a leading journal in the field. Her exceptional contributions to science have garnered prestigious accolades, including the L’Oréal-UNESCO Malaysia National Fellowship (2014), L’Oréal-UNESCO International Rising Talents Award (2015), and the ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women (2020).
