Dr. Duong Veasna

Dr. Veasna is a dedicated virologist and global health advocate with a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Parasitology from the University of Montpellier and over 19 years of experience tackling emerging zoonotic and arboviral diseases at Institut Pasteur du Cambodge.
As a scientific researcher, Veasna has driven groundbreaking research on RNA virus discovery, viral evolution, and host interactions, leveraging metagenomic NGS, bioinformatics, and experimental virology to unravel the mysteries of virus emergence and transmission dynamics. His work extends far beyond the lab – Veasna has led high-impact One Health studies in remote regions, tracking zoonotic spillover risks and strengthening global surveillance efforts.
His expertise has positioned him at the heart of multi-country research collaborations, securing funding from major organizations such as the EU, NIH, USAID, UKRI, ANRS, and AFD. With an extensive network spanning Asia, Africa, and Latin America, he has played a key role in shaping global responses to viral threats and has contributed to over 130 peer-reviewed publications.
Beyond research, Veasna is a driving force in public health, overseeing reference laboratories for arboviruses and rabies diagnostics and bolstering epidemic preparedness across Southeast Asia. A passionate mentor, he is deeply committed to training the next generation of scientists, ensuring that cutting-edge discoveries translate into real-world impact.
