Committee Member

Senior Research Fellow at the Eijkman Research Center for Molecular Biology, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia.

Dr. Sasmono is a leading scientist in arbovirus research and molecular epidemiology in Indonesia, with extensive experience in dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and other emerging viral infections. Dr. Sasmono has played a pivotal role in strengthening Indonesia’s virology research capacity, including genomic surveillance, diagnostics development, and vaccine-related studies. His research focuses on molecular virology, viral evolution, pathogenesis, antibody responses, and the development of diagnostic and vaccine platforms for mosquito-borne viruses. He has contributed significantly to dengue surveillance across Indonesia, the discovery and characterization of Zika virus circulation in the country, and collaborative research on Wolbachia and dengue vaccine trials. His current work also includes recombinant protein development, mRNA vaccine research, and translational applications of viral genomics for public health. Dr. Sasmono has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals and has been actively involved in international scientific collaborations and advisory panels including at WHO – SEARO. He received Excellence Award from the Indonesia Ministry of Health and Habibie Prize from the National Agency for Research and Innovation. He has secured multiple national and international research grants and continues to contribute to regional and global initiatives on emerging infectious diseases. Through his leadership, Indonesia’s arbovirus research has gained stronger visibility and impact in the global scientific community.
