Committee Member

Dr. Xiang Liu is an ARC DECRA fellow at Griffith University, working on arthropod borne viruses and respiratory viruses. His research has focused on gaining a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between virus infection and the host immune response and the repercussions on human viral disease pathology. His research provides an in depth understanding of the interplay between the type I interferon system and alphavirus disease pathogenesis. Dr. Xiang Liu is also an expert in viral reverse genetics and codon deoptimization-based rational virus attenuation strategies, based on which, he developed a next-generation live-attenuated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and licensed the patent to international pharmaceutical companies. He has so far authored 31 peer reviewed articles (13 as first or senior author) on leading journals, including Nature communications, Lancet infectious diseases, PloS Biology, PloS pathogens, mBio, and Journal of Virology.
